About

Alireza Ranjbar is a public international law expert specializing in International Disputes Settlement and International Law of Energy.

Having graduated in International Law (LL.M.), Alireza started his professional career as the Director of Education of the Iranian Association for United Nations Studies (IAUNS). During his time at the IAUNS, he worked with prominent Iranian professors of International Law and International Relations, most notably Professor Djamchid Momtaz and Professor Nasrin Mosaffa.

Working with the IAUNS and learning from eminent professors has paved the way for the Center for International Legal Affairs (CILA) of Iran’s Presidency. From 2015 to 2022, he worked in CILA – Office of International Litigations and Arbitrations – where he, as a (senior) legal expert, coordinated and managed the most important international litigation and arbitration cases of Iranian state-owned companies. Most importantly, he has acted as a legal advisor to the Islamic Republic of Iran in two cases brought to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against the United States of America namely cases concerning “Certain Iranian Assets” and “Alleged Violations of the 1955 Treaty of Amity, Economic Relations, and Consular Rights”.

Besides IAUNS and CILA, he was a member of the International Law Committee of the Legal and Judicial Commission of the Expediency Discernment Council where, among other things, the codification of the “General Policy Governing the International Legal Affairs” has been discussed.

In Addition, Alireza was working with a multinational private company in the field of export of petroleum products as the senior legal expert, dealing with different legal issues that the CEO directly referred to him.

Currently, Alireza is a Ph.D. candidate in Public International Law at the Faculty of Law and Political Science of the University of Tehran, the oldest and most prominent university in Iran. His Ph.D. thesis revolves around the International Law of Energy titled “Reconciling International Obligations of States in Energy Management with Emphasis on Sustainable Development”. He also has a good command of Public International Law and has written numerous articles in his favorite fields including International Dispute Settlement, International Law of Energy, and Economic Sanctions.

He is the founder and managing director of DIDEBANAN-e DADGOSTAR (DIDAD) which is an Iranian reference website working in the field of news and information related to law and legal issues (didad.ir). DIDAD has been nominated and awarded in the Iran Web and Mobile Festival as the Best Legal Website three times (three nominations and two awards).
